The Laker Varsity Track team had a very successful Friday night at their Regional meet held at New Buffalo High School on May 21st. Teams/individuals finishing in the top 8 earned medals and those finishing in the top two qualified for the State meet. All three of the girls relay teams earned medals and the boys 3200 meter relay team also earned a medal. Individual medalists included Nathan Poll in the high jump, Abigail Schrauben in the 400 meter dash, Rachel Kalamaros in the 400 meter dash, and Hannah Hysell in the 3200 meter run. Allison Glendening finished first in the 3200 meter run to become this year's Regional Champion and earned a spot in the State Finals which will be held on June 5th. Special shout out to seniors Leah Brucal and Nate Green who ran in the final track meet of their careers. They have been a great example to their younger teammates and excellent mentors! Congratulations to all of the Lakers, you represented the school well and the future of Laker track is very bright!
The Laker varsity track team was one of only 8 local schools invited to the 63rd annual Rotary track meet at St. Joseph High School. While the prospect of competing against much larger schools (St. Joseph, Benton Harbor, Lakeshore and Niles just to name a few) was daunting the five members of the Laker track team didn't flinch! Joshton Sczepanski ran two great races. Ronan Marsh had new PRs in the 800 and 1600. Lucas Wielens had new PRs on the 1600 and 3200. Allie Glendening was 3rd in the 1600 and was 1st in the 3200 winning one of the most exciting races of the night in a close finish and setting a new PR for herself. Senior Leah Brucal finished just outside the top 10 in the discus and was honored by the Rotary Club for being awarded one of their annual $2,000 scholarships! Great job Lakers!!
